Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of clinical activities, including conducting individual, group, and family therapy, performing intake assessments, and completing comprehensive evaluations. Additionally, they may take on leadership roles in facilitating group therapy sessions. Interns will gain experience working with individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds, including those covered by Medicaid. As part of their training, they will participate in an Educational Half-Day, a dedicated learning period that includes didactic instruction, case consultations, group supervision, and individual supervision. Furthermore, interns will take part in Spanish Supervision and Openness in Learning (SOL) once a month. This specialized training focuses on developing clinical skills for providing psychological services in Spanish, including assessments, consultations, and interventions.

Interview process description:

Applicants will be notified via email regarding their interview status on or before December 19, 2025. Those selected for an interview will receive a list of available dates and times. In-person interviews will be conducted on one of the last three Tuesdays in January, while virtual interviews will be scheduled based on mutual availability between the applicant and the training team.

For applicants opting for an in-person interview, the experience will include interviews with at least two supervising psychologists, participation in a didactic training session, informal meetings with current trainees, and interactions with administrative staff. Additionally, applicants will have the opportunity to tour the Toribio Psychological Services facility and engage in a faculty-hosted lunch, providing a chance to ask further questions in a relaxed setting.

Applicants selecting the virtual interview option will receive a comprehensive overview of the Toribio Psychological Services training program. This will include discussions on internship expectations, benefits, and insights into life in Fresno, CA. Virtual interviewees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and will participate in at least two individual interviews with supervising psychologists.

Both in-person and virtual interviews are given equal consideration in the selection process. Final rankings will not be determined until all interviews are completed. Our structured interview process allows us to assess each applicant’s strengths while also providing candidates with a meaningful opportunity to engage with our team and gain a deeper understanding of our program. Program Description

Fresno, California, is the largest city in the Central Valley, with a population exceeding 545,000 within city limits and over 1 million in Fresno County. The Central Valley is known as the breadbasket of the world, and Fresno plays a vital role in U.S. agriculture due to its expansive farmlands. The city is centrally located, offering convenient access to a variety of destinations, including the Central Coast (less than 2.5 hours away), San Francisco and the Bay Area (approximately 3 hours), Los Angeles (just over 3 hours), and Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks (less than 1.5 hours). Fresno also has an international airport.

 

Toribio Psychological Services (TPS) is a multidisciplinary group practice dedicated to providing high-quality mental healthcare to children, adolescents, and adults in the Central Valley. Our team is committed to delivering evidence-based interventions, staying informed with the latest research, and tailoring treatment to meet the individual needs of our patients. The psychology doctoral internship provides diverse clinical training opportunities through two simultaneous 12-month placements, including:

  • Clinical Therapy Track – Focuses on providing therapy to children and adults with some assessment training
  • Assessment and Diagnostic Track – Emphasizes assessment training with some psychotherapy exposure

 

Training at Toribio Psychological Services mostly takes place at 3475 W Shaw Ave, Suite 101, Fresno, CA 93711. Our team includes psychologists with varying levels of experience and credentials, supported by a comprehensive administrative staff that manages calls, scheduling, insurance verifications, billing, and record requests. The office is designed to foster a professional and welcoming environment, featuring a waiting room, reception area, multiple individual offices, a large library used as a conference room, several testing rooms, a chart room, an outdoor patio, a break room, public restrooms for patients, and private restrooms for employees.
