The MBC Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship is a full-time, 12-month training program that is not accredited by the APA. Doctoral interns are expected to work 40 hours per week and acquire a minimum of 2,000 total hours of work to complete the program. It begins each year during the first week of September, lasting until the following August. At least 800 hours must be in direct service with clients.
MBC's Training Program offers doctoral-level interns an intense, thorough clinical psychology internship within a private practice setting in downtown Chicago that focuses on clients' connection with their mind and body for optimal balanced growth and healing.
We integrate ongoing education and training for competent clinical psychologists who will provide evidence-based treatment and assessment services to a diverse clientele of children, adolescents, and adults. Our supervisory staff is dedicated to creating a supportive atmosphere where interns may achieve competency-based objectives in clinical and diagnostic skills, cultural diversity, and professional growth while working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Individual Psychotherapy (approximately 11-18 hours per week). Interns’ caseloads are comprised of a combination of brief and longer-term psychotherapy cases. Decisions about the duration of therapy and frequency of sessions are based on the assessed needs of the client and are made by the client and therapist in supervision with the therapy supervisor.
Group Psychotherapy (3.0 hours per week). Interns co-lead an interpersonal process therapy group with a staff member for the duration of the training year. Additionally, Interns will co-facilitate a series of DBT process skills groups throughout the year. Approximately 2-3 rotations.
Relationship Therapy (at least one hour weekly during the second semester). Interns provide relationship therapy for at least one relationship, starting in the spring semester. Interns may have the opportunity to provide therapy to an additional relationship with supervisory approval.
Assessment (2-3 hours per week). Interns conduct 2 regular initial consultations per week throughout the training year; if clinical need warrants and initial consultations increase to 3, there is a one-hour reduction in the individual psychotherapy expectations.
Crisis Consultation (1 hour per week beginning spring semester). Beginning their second semester, interns conduct 1 crisis consultation hour per week. In summer, interns additionally share responsibility for triage coverage.
Supervision and Training of Externs (1 hour per week for 9 months). Interns provide one hour of individual supervision for the psychotherapy work of an advanced psychotherapy practicum student and contribute to their evaluations under the supervision of the training staff.
