Chatham University provides its intern with an ID that includes access to its facilities (fitness center, pool, library, etc.); access to computer during internship; and access to campus events. Excela provides its intern with free parking, an employee wellness program, access to a computer, and access to their library.
Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Each day is unique at our sites and offers a rich variety of clinical experiences, training, and support! Interns engage in clinical work four days per week and one day reserved for didactics and group supervision. Clinical work includes individual short and long term therapy; assessment; consultation; and provision of supervision for a doctoral practicum student. Interns have the opportunity to learn or deepen their skills in ADHD assessment and may be able to engage in some group counseling. Interns also have the opportunity to attend the weekly consultation meeting with a psychiatrist. At Excela, interns may provide supervision medical residents and teach psychological topics related to primary care, such as cultural humility, suicide assessment, ADHD basics, and differential diagnosis. At Chatham, interns may co-facilitate the weekly group supervision meeting for practicum students work with athletes, and provide psychoeducational outreach programming to the university community. Interns are provided with 2 hours of individual supervision each week. Fridays are reserved for training, during which interns meet with consortium staff for group supervision, professional development, and seminars on topics including mindfulness, integrated care, therapeutic assessment, self-disclosure, problem solving therapy, and much more! Interns also enjoy an hour long lunch hour and may choose to venture into the local community for local restaurants, coffee shops, and more for a little mid-day self-care.

Interview process description:

The Internship Training Director contacts applicants to schedule an interview between December 17, 2024 – January 17, 2025. All interviews are conducted via Zoom. We will provide phone interviews for any applicant who does not have access to reliable internet or to a reliable web-based video call service. The interview consists of two parts. First, intern applicants have a 50 minute structured interview with the Internship Training Director (from Chatham) and Director of Behavioral Sciences (from Excela) to learn more about the internship experience. Applicants also have a 45 minute interview with two members of the Consortium. 

W offer the opportunity to engage in an optional meeting with current interns at the Consortium. We will offer two opportuities to join a conversation with the doctoral interns to learn more about the experience and to ask questions. This is optional and applicants’ decision to talk with a current trainee will not be factored into interview ranking decisions.
