The University of Texas Mc Govern Medical School’s Louis A Faillace, MD Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers a 1 year full time internship to doctoral students in psychology. The purpose of the internship is to provide broad, evidence-based clinical training with children, adolescents, and adults. The internship follows a scientist-practitioner training model, and is designed to prepare interns for careers in a variety of clinical and academic settings. The internship is accredited by APA since 2016 and has applied for re-accreditation.
UTHealth Doctoral Psychology Internship Program provides a generalist internship program. This year our program is offering tracks for the first time. The five tracks available are Addiction (match number 229411), Trauma (match number 229413), Child and Adolescent (match number 229415), Adult Inpatient (match number 229411) and Developmental/Assessment (match number 229414 ). Interns may apply to any of the tracks or more than one. However, applicants are encouraged to apply to no more than 2. Applicants should choose the track(s) for which they are most qualified by past training and experience.
When matched to a track, the intern will be assigned 2 rotation blocks from that track and one from another track, in accordance with our Generalist training model. Interns should expect to be challenged to grow during the internship year, within the context of a supportive program in which supervisors work directly with interns in an apprenticeship training model.Application deadline is November 1, 2024.
Other features of the program include a strong didactic component, a large and highly qualified psychology faculty of various cultural backgrounds, opportunities for interdisciplinary work and consultation, inpatient experiences, mutidisciplinary settings, and research mentorship with protected research time.
Interns have generous benefits and receive 3 days of professional leave as part of their program. Stipends are competitive.
The program is in Houston, Texas, a large, friendly city including many different cultural and socioeconomic groups, a high quality of life and relatively low cost of living. The McGovern Medical School is located in the Texas Medical Center, a very large campus containing multiple institutions of higher education as well a numerous hospitals and research facilities.
