The main objective of the Doctoral Psychology Internship Program at Northwell Health, Staten Island University Hospital is to provide the opportunity for interns to develop competency in the application of neuropsychological and psychological knowledge to the professional practice of psychology, with specific emphasis placed on clinical problems in a medical center setting. Interns with work with both adults and children with a variety of neurological and medical conditions that impact behavior and cogntition, including patients with TBI, sports related concussion, stroke, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, epilepsy, movement disorders, dementia, encephalitis, and cancer. While a strong emphasis is placed on assessment skills, students are also expected to engage in intervention services (i.e., psychotherapy or cognitive remediation). This placement is most appropriate for interns planning to pursue a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology and eventually practice as clinical neuropsychologists.
