The Life Skills Psychological Services Internship Training Program is housed within a group private practice with eight doctoral level psychologists (one of whom is a board certified forensic psychologist), one masters level psychologist, three licensed professional counselors, and three licensed masters of social work. The intern will provide 30 hours each week of face-to-face individual, couples, family, and group psychological services to children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. The clinical conditions will be broad and include many of the DSM diagnostic categories. Psychological assessment of all age groups occupies about 20-25% of the service delivery time. Assessments involve many test instruments and evaluations are clinical, employment-related, forensic, neuropsychological, educational, disability, and pre-employment.
Didactic training activities correspond to diagnostics, treatment, and evaluations. They provide opportunities for interdisciplinary networking and meeting with other mental health service providers. Didactic training focuses on a number of topics including such things as: clinical conditions and evidence-based interventions, visiting assisted living settings, neurorehabilitation setting, the court, special education classroom, psychiatric hospital, department of health and human services, sheltered workshop, and the homeless shelter.
The program places strong emphasis on diversity and integrates diversity in its many manifestations into all aspects of the training. As well, the program places strong emphasis on diversity with respect to its interns. All staff at Life Skills provide a very warm, welcoming, and respectful relationship for all interns.
