Liberty Healthcare's Clinical Psychology Training Program functions within the Illinois Department of Human Services at the Treatment and Detention Facility providing intensive inpatient treatment to individuals civilly detained or committed as Sexually Violent Persons. The Internship is a one calendar year, 2000 hour training experience that offers Interns a variety of learning opportunities including 1) Co-facilitating 13.5 hours per week of group therapy in both psycho-educational and process-oriented formats, 2) Maintaining a caseload of 10-12 primary residents for whom the Intern will complete bi-annual individualized treatment plans, and conduct brief individual contacts (typically monthly, or as-needed), and 3) Completing a minimum of 5 psychological test batteries and reports assessing individualized treatment needs and/or cognitive concerns. Those direct care activities comprise greater than 40% of the Intern's time. Other training activities such as individual and group supervisions, Didactic trainings covering a broad scope of diversity awareness and competence and forensic issues, treatment team meetings, clinical documentation, and administrative activities make up the remaining 60% of the Intern's scheduled 40 hours per week. Interns receive a minimum of 4 hours of supervision per week, which includes 2 hours of individual and 1 hour of group with 2 Licensed Psychologists, as well as 1 hour of individual with a master's level Team Leader. Supervisions are Competency Based and trainee focused, addressing clinical skill acquisition and development, awareness and management of counter-transference, and other topics relevant to professional growth, as well as those that the Intern may bring up. Additionally, two Multicultural case presentations will be required. During the training year the Intern will be exposed a broad scope of Forensic issues through various learning methods and opportunities. See link below for further information.
