Program Description

The pre-doctoral internship at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Physicians--Neuropsychology was designed to train future neuropsychologists to work in health care settings that emphasize multi-disciplinary collaboration and treatment. Interns are expected to develop skill in evaluating and treating patients in our rehabilitation hospital as well as outpatients in our various medical and neuropsychology based clinics/programs. As the majority of our work involves neuropsychological assessment, interns will be trained to administer and interpret a wide range of neuropsychological tests and to effectively impart findings to patients, family members and other health care providers. Our psychologists are an integral part of the treatment team at the Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital where we evaluate and treat patients with traumatic injuries, strokes, brain tumors and other disorders. On the outpatient side, our interns will be involved in the Alzheimer's and Memory Care program. This program allows the intern to work as part of an interdisciplinary team consisting of neuropsychologists, neurologists, geritricians, nurse practioners and social workers. We are members of an interdisciplanary concussion clinic. We provide diagnostic and treatment services to patients seen at our pain management program. Interns will also participate in the hosptial's Bariatric Surgery Program and our interns will be trained to evaluate patients and communicate their findings and recommendations to the bariatric surgical team.  When seeing patients for brief psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral approaches are most often used. Patients with long-term psychotherapy needs are generally referred to other providers in the community.

LGHP Neuropsychology is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in our recruiting of all staff and trainees. Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is committed to providing an equal opportunity work environment. We comply with all laws, regulations, and policies related to non-discrimination and fair employment practices in all of our personnel actions. We strongly encourage interested candidates from minority and/or disability backgrounds to apply. Further expressed commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are indicated below.

Coronavirus adjustment: We previously implemented telehealth services including development of a tele-neuropsychological battery. This training will be incorporated into the internship year accordingly if needed.
