Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns primarily work with individual students at the university on a daily basis to provide psychotherapeutic treatment for a variety of mental health concerns. Additionally, interns regularly provide group therapy and may also work with student couples in their case load. Providing psychological evaluation for learning disorders or ADHD, outreach presentations, participating in professional team meetings, case conferences, and case management are regular components to the work week. Interns have didactic training opportunities each week, receive supervision, and may also provide supervision to therapists in training.

Interview process description:

Applicants will be informed by email regarding their interview status by December 15th. Virtual interviews lasting approximately 45 minutes are conducted by the selection committee (typically consisting of 5 members including current interns) and occur mid-January. The interview includes a case presentation in which information regarding "a client" will be sent to the applicant prior to the interview.  Applicants are welcome to contact current interns and staff to address any additional questions or concerns they may have.

Program Description

The doctoral internship at UVU prepares the intern for competent and ethical practice as a generalist psychologist. A variety of training opportunities are provided with an emphasis in providing effective individual, couples, and group therapy, psychological assessment, and crisis intervention to the university's diverse student body. Tailoring the internship to meet the goals and needs of interns is a priority and opportunities to meet these needs can include teaching, research, specific modality training, outreach, community resource consultation, and didactic trainings. All members of the SHS Staff embrace multiculturalism and diversity in all aspects of our work, and we seek interns with a keen interest and demonstrated experience in working with diverse clientele and programming.
