Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns take part in the following activities: Individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, intake interviews, crisis intervention, supervision of externs, and supervision of practicum students. Interns also receive supervision, participate in multiple training seminars, provide outreach and consultation, consult with the staff psychiatric nurse practitioner, serve as the Center's primary liaison for offices on campus and manage the Center's social media.

Interview process description:

Interviews will likely begin on December 20th and 21st of 2021 and conclude the week of January 3rd – 7th of 2022.  All interviews will take place via Zoom. The applicants are interviewed by the entire staff and one of the interns.  Staff members interview the intern applicants in teams of two or three.  Each interview lasts approximately 40 minutes.  The entire interview process lasts approximately three hours.  The applicants also have a chance to meet with the current interns to ask more informal questions.

Program Description

The Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology offered by the Counseling Center at The Catholic University of America is designed to provide supervised clinical experience in individual and group psychotherapy, consultation and outreach, crisis intervention, and supervision. Senior staff supervisors have a variety of theoretical orientations, and the orientation of internship training as a whole is integrationist.  The internship received accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) in April 2010. The aim of the internship is to provide graduate interns with a comprehensive, well-organized training experience, focusing on the continued development of the professional skills necessary for successful functioning as a professional psychologist. Our interns are regarded as an important part of the agency, are respected as full-time professional staff, and are expected to work closely with senior staff as colleagues. Emphasis is placed upon working with different treatment modalities and collaborating with colleagues of different theoretical orientations.
