Program Description

The Mindful Living Centre (MLC) offers a year-long residency program focusing on treatment and assessment in an outpatient private practice setting. Given the demographic makeup of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) there is significant exposure to diverse populations across age, gender, ethnicity, and religion/spiritual practices. Residents may work with adolescents, adults, and seniors. The MLC is an evidence-based practice, and our most common practice frameworks include CBT, ACT, EFT, and DBT. Emphasis is placed on case conceptualization, and residents are encouraged to consider the biopsychosocial factors impacting their clients. Residents broaden their assessment skills through a combination of client self-report measures and semi-structured interviews. There are also many opportunities for refining report-writing skills, including brief assessments to inform treatment, as well as comprehensive, psychodiagnostic interviews. Residents can also develop professional interests through minor rotations, either in couples counseling or working with local communities in outreach efforts.

Supervision at the MLC is valued and prioritized, and emphasis is placed on individualized training plans for each resident. Residents are considered members of the MLC's interdisciplinary group of associates, and building collegial relationships through both informal and formal consultation is encouraged. Residents are also invited (but not required) to participate in regularly scheduled social events (previous events have included dining outings, beach day, archery tag, paint class). Specialized didactics and learning opportunities are offered to enhance residents' understanding of the unique aspects of private practice, and residents may work in any or all three of our locations in the Greater Toronto Area.
