Applicants invited for an interview will be notified by email. Dates in early-to-mid January will be offered to applicants as agreed upon by CCPPP.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual and/or remote interviews will be offered to applicants. Interviews will include a group meeting with the Director of Training, 2 individual interviews with a panel of 2-3 training committee members, and a separate meeting with current residents.
The goal of the Predoctoral Residency in Paediatric Psychology at the Hospital for Sick Children is to prepare new psychologists for the varied demands of professional practice in pediatric psychology using a scientist/practitioner model. The program is designed to ensure experience in assessment (psychological/developmental, psychoeducational, neuropsychological), psychological interventions and clinical research.
The program follows an evidence-based/best practices approach and a developmental framework to conceptualize a child's needs and challenges in the context of their families, their culture and their language of origin. Residents will have experience with children of all ages who present with psychological problems related to congenital, perinatal, medical, or acquired conditions, or mental health issues. Clinical research is highly valued and closely integrated with patient care activities. Residents also attend a variety of didactic and patient-oriented rounds relevant to their specific rotations, as well as a didactic seminar series and Monthly Psychology Rounds within the Department of Psychology.
