Program Description

The BCMHSUS Clinical-Forensic Psychology Residency Programme focuses on forensic assessment and treatment for an adult patient population with complex psychiatric illnesses, along with involvment in the legal system. This is a wonderful training programme for a person who might wish to specialize in forensic psychology. Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to offer training in fitness or criminal responsiblity assessments. We currently offer rotations at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam and the Vancouver and Surrey regional outpatient clinics.  Depending on supervisor availability, we may also offer a rotation at the Red Fish Healing Centre. Our residency programme was initially accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) in May 2015.  In 2018, we received another 4-year term of accrediation (i.e., 2017-18 to 2021-22).  Our site visit was conducted in late June and we are hopeful that we will be reaccredited by CPA in the fall of 2022. Please refer to our brochure for additional information. The link for our brochure can be found at http://www.bcmhsus.ca/careers/for-students/placement-opportunities.
