In an effort to provide flexibility for internship applicants, interviews occur on multiple dates during December and January each year. All interviews will occur via telephone or online conference platform. For the 2023-24 internship year, we will offer the following virtual interview dates (tentative): 12/16/2022, 1/9/2023, 1/11/2023 and 1/16/2023 . Our interview process takes about a half day and consists of the following: meet & greet with faculty and current interns, introduction and internship year discussion with the training director, and two individual interviews with faculty members. The day ends with an open Q/A with the Training Committee.
If there is a particular faculty member an applicant would like to meet, we ask that applicants make this request known as soon as possible. We will make every effort to arrange time for such a meeting with the identified faculty member.
Applicants who are chosen for an interview will be notified by phone on or before December 7, 2022.
Generalist clinical psychology internship program located at a large state inpatient psychiatric hospital with abundant outdoor space on a 350 acre campus. Our training model is Clinician-Scholar. Clients range in age from 4 years to geriatric. Interns complete 3 rotations of approximately 4 months duration. The following rotations have been offered in the past, although rotation availability (or experiences within) may vary due to unforeseen circumstances: Adult Receiving (female and male units), Child and Adolescent - Psych and Substance Use Rotations, Substance Use Services, Forensic Service, Administrative Psychology, Assessment, Continued Treatment Services, and Geropsychology. Interns work 40 hours/week providing individual and group therapy, conducting psychological evaluations and suicide risk assessments, and participating in multidisciplinary treatment teams. Additionally, interns often have the opportunity to supervise practicum students or early career therapists. We also have a clinical and a forensic postdoctoral fellowship. Over half of our current training faculty members were former interns at our hospital. Whitfield is a suburb of Jackson, the state capital of Mississippi. Applicants are referred to our program website for additional information: www.psychology.msh.ms.gov and encouraged to reach out to the training director with additional questions: Mary.Angelo@msh.state.ms.gov. We look forward to hearing from you!
