Site Name: Pilgrim Psychiatric Center (state hospital)
Department: Psychology Department
Pilgrim Psychiatric Center's interview period generally ranges from mid-December to late January. Pending CDC guidance and government regulations pertaining to the pandemic, we are optimistic that we will be able to resume on-site interviews (our preferred format). However, a videoconference option will still be available for applicants with extant health issues and/or other extenuating circumstances. Each applicant is given a brief tour of the building, followed by an interview conducted by the Training Director and a psychology staff member. Applicants will also meet with a current intern separately. The interview process is approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours in length. Applicants who are invited to interview will be notified by e-mail.
Pilgrim Psychiatric Center is a state hospital which serves severely and persistently mentally ill adult patients. Our internship offers broad-based, varied training experiences with exposure to a wide range of DSM-5 diagnoses applicable to the SPMI population. Interns learn through a practitioner/apprenticeship process how to provide comprehensive psychological services, which include: individual and group psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and treatment planning. Placements include admissions service and psychiatric rehabilitation wards. Opportunities to integrate a variety of on-campus resources into treatment exist, including animal-assisted therapy (via our barn), bibliotherapy (library), horticultural therapy (greenhouse), etc.
