Program Description

The internship provides training in fundamental clinical psychology skills within the setting of a rehabilitation medicine hospital. As such, the internship emphasizes training in conducting assessments (primarily neuropsychological assessments) and implementing clinical interventions with people who have recently become disabled.  Three interns will make up the class of 2022-2023. Interns complete three clinical rotations which run sequentially: One rotation will takes place in our outpatient department, where interns will provide individual and group psychotherapy and cognitive remediation, complete full neuropsychological evaluations, and participate in a cognitive day treatment program.  Two rotations occur on our inpatient brain injury and spinal cord injury units, where students will conduct brief cognitive evaluations and provide inidividual, group, and family psychotherapy and cognitive remediation.  In addition, all intern will carry a small (3-6) caseload of outpatient psychotherapy patients who they will treat for the entire year.  Interns receive two hours of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision weekly. Didactics are comprehensive. The program brochure can be found at https://icahn.mssm.edu/about/departments/rehabilitation/education/internship.  If the current brochure is not yet posted you may contact Dr. Breed @ Sabrina.Breed@mountsinai.org for the most recent version.
