Program Description

The GSU Counseling Center is located on an evolving urban and multiculturally diverse campus. Training staff hold a variety of theoretical orientations, including third wave behavioral, interpersonal, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, multicultural, and feminist. There is an emphasis on exploring dimensions of diversity(race, ethnicity, gender, SES, sexual/gender identity, spirituality, level of ability, and age) on one's experience and development (for clients as well as trainees). Interns provide individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, conduct intakes/clinical interviews, engage in outreach and consultation, and participate in crisis intervention. Training seminars/group supervisions are held on a regular basis. Professional development and ethics are incorporated throughout training, both in individual supervision and seminars. Interns are expected to complete an individual "in-reach" project of their choosing. Additionally, interns may have the opportunity to help in the planning and/or implementing of the annual GSU Summit on Culture as part of their professional development.
