Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns rotate through inpatient services, partial hospital program, medical clinics and/or school as primary clinicians, doing individual, group, and family work. They carry outpatient individual, group and family cases. They complete psychological assessments in inpatient and outpatient settings. There are several hours of didactics and at least 3-4 hours of supervision per week.

Interview process description:

We will interview candidates virtually on one of four dates: January 4th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th of 2024. The candidates will each have two 30-minute individual interviews with faculty of the program (one faculty member per interview), have an orientation session with the Director of Training, and have a meeting with the current interns.  

Employees of the hospital must be vaccinated with at least an initial series of the COVID-19 vaccine.  Booster shots are not required.

Program Description

The Psychology Internship at Elmhurst Hospital is now comprised of two tracks: Adult Psychology and Child and Adolescent Psychology. 

All interns will be assigned four 3 month rotations, outpatient individual, group and family/couples therapy, and psychological assessment cases. Interns will also attend didactics, case conference and other seminars, in addition to individual and group supervision. 

As our program is grant-funded, Adult Track interns may be required to complete some amount of work involving substance abuse, including OUD/SUD treatment and prevention, including rotations in dual diagnosis inpatient and outpatient group work.  In addition, interns can choose from other rotations including psychiatric emergency room, adult or adolescent inpatient, child partial hospitalization, outpatient integrated service,  and women's forensic inpatient. The Adult track has six full time positions.

Child and Adolescent Track interns will be required to complete one rotation in either adolescent inpatient or Child Partial Hospitalization, and two of the following three rotations: Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Room, Adolescent Collatorative Care or Healthy Steps. The fourth rotation can be of the intern's choosing. The Child/Adolescent track has five full time positions.  Because of grant requirements, Child Track Interns must be United States citizens or permanent residents.
