Program Description

The Psychology Internship at Elmhurst Hospital is now comprised of two tracks: Adult Psychology and Child and Adolescent Psychology.

All interns will be assigned four 3 month rotations, outpatient individual, group and family/couples therapy, and psychological assessment cases. Interns will also attend didactics, case conference and other seminars, in addition to individual and group supervision.

As our program is grant-funded, some of the Adult Track interns will be required to complete at least one rotation focusing on the integration of behavioral health and primary care: either consultation-liaison or outpatient integrated care which includes the Infectious Disease clinic and the Depression Collaborative. Some of the Adult Track interns will be required to complete a substance abuse rotation. Preferences will be taken into consideration. In addition, interns can choose from other inpatient rotations including psychiatric emergency room, adult, child or adolescent inpatient, and women's forensic inpatient. This track will have nine full time positions.

Child and Adolescent Track interns will be required to complete one inpatient rotation on child or adolescent inpatient, one rotation on Child Partial Hospitalization/Pediatric Consultation Liaison, one rotation in Consultation-Liaison or adult outpatient integrated care, and the fourth rotation of their choosing. This track will have two full time positions.

Due to funding sources, our program requires that interns be citizens of the US, non-citizen nationals of the US, or a foreign national who possesses a visa permitting permanent residency in the US.

Applications are to be submitted through AAPI online. For a prospectus, please email Lea Nguyen (nguyenl9@nychhc.org). For internship questions, contact Dr. Pearson at (718)334-3913 or by email at pearsonj@nychhc.org.
