Program Description

Our goal is to prepare trainees for an advanced level of competence in the practice of Clinical Psychology and to prepare them to work in the VA or other complex healthcare systems.  The fellowship offers two tracks, with major areas of training: 1) Psychosocial Rehabilitation/Serious Mental Illness (PSR/SMI) and 2) Post-traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD). Typically, one to two PTSD fellows and two to three PSR/SMI fellows are selected each year. Persons with training and experience in these areas are especially competitive applicants.

Integral training components include direct service, strong didactics and supervision, development of supervision skills, and professional development activities. Fellowship training includes required core experiences based on the chosen area of emphasis, as well as options based on the learning and training goals of each fellow: clinical, research and scholarship, or other areas of professional development. As an Interprofessional fellowship, fellows will routinely interact with staff and fellows of other disciplines. Fellows will also interact with our APA-accredited interns throughout the year, and may have opportunities to provide supervision.

Our strength as a program lies in the rich diversity of clinical opportunities available and the supportive and collaborative environment at the Central Arkansas VA. We believe that postdoctoral education and training is primarily experiential through supervised service delivery, with an emphasis on ethical and legal considerations, individual and cultural diversity, evidence-based practice, and professionalism. The training staff promote professional development of the fellow as a clinician, consultant, clinical scholar, supervisor, educator, program innovator, interdisciplinary team member, and consumer advocate. We strive to provide exemplary postdoctoral training consistent with a practitioner-scholar model and a biopsychosocial, recovery-oriented approach.

We accept application materials (paper or electronic) in one packet or separately, if received by the deadline. Letters of reference sent via email should be sent from your reference's work email. Note: Completion of internship and doctoral degree required to start fellowship. Additionally, a physical exam, drug screen, and background check provided by the VA are required by start of fellowship.

We look forward to receiving your application and encourage you to reach out to us if you have any questions. Applicants from under-represented communities within the field of psychology are encouraged to apply.
