Site Name: SUNY Upstate Medical University
Department: Psychiatry and Behavioral Science
Interviews run from early December to mid-January. The applicant meets with one or both Co-Directors of Training (Drs. Greenberg and Miller), two additional faculty members, and a group of current interns.
Our internship is steeped in the scientist-practitioner and scholar-practitioner traditions, and aims to strenghten interns’ clinical abilities, theoretical knowledge, and critical thinking. To this end, we offer intensive supervision of clinical activities, participation in intensive weekly didactic seminars and clinical conferences, and significant exposure to many types of outpatient and inpatient clinical work.
Our program originated from a psychodynamic base, and might now be described as polytheoretical, with significant acknowledgement of and exposure to up to date findings and practices in several orientations, including psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and humanistic. We place a strong value on theoretical rigor and respectful exchange of ideas across orientations.
Please indicate in your cover letter whether you are applying to the Adult or Child Track. More detailed description of the program can be obtained online at www.upstate.edu/psych/education/internships/psychology
