Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns are scheduled to be onsite from 8:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday. They have a mix of duties daily including patient care, research, interdisciplinary team meetings and supervision meetings and didactics. Interns are encouraged to participate in research and program development. It is our goal that interns complete their work daily by 4:30, though it is not uncommon for an intern to stay additional time to ensure notes are completed and calls returned prior to leaving.

Interview process description:

We will be offering virtual informational days in January (specific dates TBD). There will be no in-person interviews this year. We will attempt to provide applicants their preferred date.  Interview days begin at 8am EST and can run until 3pm.  The day will include discussion with the DOT and training staff, and current interns regarding the training program culture, rotation options, and additional training opportunities.  We do not have group interviews.  

Each applicant will have a virtual interview with training staff which will last approximately 45 minutes; these interviews are semi-structured and used to guide our selection process. Applicants being considered for multiple tracks will have one interview per track. We attempt to match interviewers with applicants' interests.

Program Description

The Internship has 4 tracks: General, Health and Medical Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Interprofessional Geropsychology track.  Applicants may apply to all 4 tracks.   The Health Psychology, Neuropsychology and Interprofessional Geropsychology tracks have specific rotations described in our brochure.  All tracks have three, 4-month rotations. All interns, regardless of track, maintain 3-5 outpatient mental health cases throughout the year and complete monthly outpatient psychological evaluations.  All interns receive outpatient case supervision, assessment supervision and  rotation supervision. Outpatient cases and assessments will come from the Primary Care Clinics, Outpatient Mental Health Clinic, PTSD Program, and other programs around the healthcare system. All Interns, regardless of the track to which they are matched, are required to demonstrate competencies as defined in our evaluation. Didactics and supervision provide training in several evidence based therapies including (but not limited to): motivational interviewing, cognitive processing therapy, seeking safety, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, social skills training, universal protocol, and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia.
