Interviews are offered to the applicants whom we feel are the best matches for our program alongside the goals stated by the applicant. In accordance with recommendations from the Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs, all interviews will be offered via videoconferencing. No in-person interviews will be offered, even to local candidates, to ensure consistency across interviews. Applicants will till have the opportunity to meet with the Training Director, two or more faculty, and at least one current resident. Because interviewees will not have an opportunity to visit our site, we have created a promotional video that allows interviewees to see the facilities and meet some of the staff: https://careers.vch.ca/work-here/students-and-residents/psychology-residency/ Format of interview is individual, vignette based and 1 hour in length. Applicants are offered interviews via NMS Interviewer.
The VCH Predoctoral Residency in Clinical Psychology offers four full-time predoctoral resident positions. Several VCH training sites facilitate the residency experience; Vancouver General Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital, University of British Columbia Hospital, and the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre. Most psychology residents will select training modules in several sites and every effort is made to coordinate their schedule to minimize travel time. There is a mandatory group Program Development & Evaluation project, as well as experience in the provision of supervision to junior trainees. The resident may also participate in research during the course of training if they are interested. Seminars take place throughout the year. Residents apply and are accepted for a position in one of the three tracks offered: Adult Mental Health Track (up to 2 full-time positions available), Neuropsychology Track (up to 2 full-time positions available), Operational Stress Injury Track (up to 1 full-time position available). Residents gain experience in evidence-based assessment methods for psychological and cognitive difficulties. Treatment experiences include individual therapy and group therapy, using a wide range of approaches such as CBT, CPT, DBT, MBCBT, PE, EFT and CFT. A number of Health Psychology rotations are available as elective rotations within the Adult Mental Health and Neuropsychology Tracks.
