Other Fringe Benefits (not indicated above): Interns are allotted 10 days of annual leave to be used for vacation, travel for dissertation defense and/or travel for post-doctoral and job interviews. Interns are also entitled to all University holidays and the University winter break that typically spans between 12/24 and 1/2.
Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Activities vary from day-to-day and run with the public school calendar. Between the months of August and May/June, interns spend one day per week at the MDC receiving supervision and didactic training; three days per week in schools providing counseling, consultation, and/or evaluation services; and one day per week at the MDC conducting specialized/diagnostic assessments. One evening per week during the spring and fall semesters, interns will lead or co-lead a therapy group; interns will have the opportunity to lead/co-lead one Zones group and one PEERS group. Also during the school year, interns will be assigned 2-3 specialist level school psychology practicum students for whom they will supervise school-based activities and report writing. During the summer months (June-July) interns are primarily at the MDC providing evaluation services and supervision to advanced practicum students. Please note: due to COVID-19 some modifications to our training program were made for the 2020-21 training year; most of these adjustments have been removed per new CDC guidelines and corresponding policies at FSU. However, interns should be advised that we will continue to follow local, state, and federal guidelines regarding client and clinician safety protocols and will make only necessary adjustments to the training program to be in compliance. Supervision and didactic training may occur using Zoom, with the bulk of these activities occurring face-to-face.

Interview process description:

Applicants under consideration for ranking will be offered a virtual (Zoom) interview. At this time we intend to offer whole group orientations on three separate dates, with individual interviews scheduled with the entire staff on the same day that applicants attend their preferred whole-group session. A virtual tour will be given as part of the whole group orientation/overview. At least two intern virtual "meet and greet" sessions will be held as optional activities for applicants. Applicants will be emailed an invitation to interview, along with an outline of what to expect the interview day. Applicants will sign up for interview slots via an online site (e.g., Sign-up Genius), whose link will be shared after the invitation to interview has been received. The tentative time frame for completing virtual interviews includes 1/16/2024 through 1/18/2024 (dates subject to change; applicants will have ample advanced notice should this occur), with options for other dates should an applicant be unable to accommodate this schedule.

Program Description

The MDC Doctoral Psychology Internship Program is a university-based 2,000 hour, 12-month program which emphasizes training in school-based assessment and consultative services, as well as school-based mental health services. Training in school and clinic-based therapeutic intervention with children and youth, clinic-based assessment of specialized child populations (i.e., Autism, ADHD, etc.), and supervision of practicum level graduate students is also provided. Between the months of August and May, interns are placed in a school setting three days per week. The MDC offers four internship positions each year for students from APA approved graduate programs in psychology.
