Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site A typical week includes: Attend 2 seminars, supervise a doctoral level practicum student, co-lead an interpersonal process therapy group, cover emergency services for 3-4 hours, attend supervision of supervision 1.5 hours, attend primary supervision 2 hours, attend concentration supervision 1 hour, attend group seminar/team 1 hour, 12-16 clinical hours, 5 hours of case coordination, 1.5-2 hours records/video review, outreach activity (1-2 times/month).

Approximately 30 applicants will be invited to participate in virtual interviews and to attend an optional virtual CAPS open house to meet our clinical and training staff.  The interviews will be conducted between early to middle January. There will be opportunities to meet with the Associate Director of Training and current interns. The open house is usually scheduled on one of the final two Fridays in January.

Program Description

CAPS is a counseling and mental health center for 48,000+ diverse students attending Indiana University. The internship offers abundant clinical opportunities with individuals and groups.  Additionally, the program offers supervised supervision experience with predoctoral practicum clinicians and a varity of outreach activities. We also offer nine year-long concentration opportunities (survivor programming and counseling, clinically underserved outreach coordination and counseling, LGBTQ+ care programming and counseling, Spanish language programming and counseling, grief and loss counseling, suicide assessment and treatment, expanded group counseling, expanded supervision, and brain injury programming and counseling ). The website internship training manual provides extensive information about the program. Feedback from prior interns indicate they have been pleased with the variety of clinical experiences available to them. Interns report that the student population was more clinically diverse than anticipated. Our interns appreciate the warmth, interest, and knowledge staff bring to their experience. Interns appreciate CAPS' positive environment and culture.
