Site Name: VA Maryland Health Care System
Department: VAMHCS/UM SOM Psychology Internship Consortium
All applicants are notified of their interview status no later than December 15. Interviews will take place virtually on Thursdays in January (specific date dependent upon the track to which an applicant applies). Applicants meet with the Director of Training for a virtual overview of the training program, and then participate in individual virtual interviews with faculty of the track for which they have applied. Applicants have the opportunity to meet virtually with the current interns during the interview day. Interns are not involved in the selection process; therefore, applicants have the chance to ask questions of their experience training with the program in an non-evaluative format.
Our program's primary educational goal is to provide interns with a comprehensive and structured set of research-informed, clinical, and didactic experiences that prepare them for a wide range of research, policy-making, and clinical roles in psychology. Our Consortium is a scientist-practitioner training program located in an integrated health care delivery system that gives interns awareness of current developments and challenges in mental health care. Interns work closely with faculty and staff in interdisciplinary teams to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to respond to an ever-changing health care environment. To achieve the training goals, interns spend a minimum of 24 hours per week in clinical rotations, receive a minimum of four hours of supervision each week, attend 2.5 hours of seminar per week, and spend up to six hours per week engaged in non-dissertation research activities. The following training tracks are available at our Consortium: Trauma Recovery (VA-based), Serious Mental Illness (VA-based), Health psychology (VA-based), Adult Neuropsychology (VA-based), Comprehensive Adult Psychology (VA-based), School Mental Health (UM-based), and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry (UM-based; 3 tracks: Clinical High Risk for Psychosis, Child Inpatient and Pediatric Consult-Liaison, Child Outpatient and Pediatric Consult-Liaison). More detailed information about our program can be found in the brochure on our website.
