The Goodman Psychological Services Center is a private, nonprofit outpatient mental health agency, whose sponsoring agency is Albizu University, has been providing mental health services since 1980 to a predominantly multi-culturally diverse, and underserved population. For Interns training at the Goodman Center, they will be engaged in an array of psychological services to include psychological assessments and interventions for children, adolescents, and adults. Interventions include individual psychotherapy (ages 5 and up), marital/couple and family therapy, and group psychotherapy in specialized topic areas (i.e., Parenting Skills Training). Psychological assessments include both psycho-educational and psychological evaluations (measures include intelligence, achievement, process, personality, and neuropsychological tests, and other specialized evaluations). The Goodman Center's internship program offers interns a range of experiences upon which to build their theoretical and applied clinical skills. Our aim is to prepare Interns for general practice in clinical psychology as informed by scholarly inquiry with a thorough grounding in psychological theory, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and consultation. These include opportunities to work with culturally diverse patients representing a broad spectrum of psychopathology, conduct diagnostic evaluations and learn a variety of treatment approaches to include evidence based practices. Psychology Doctoral interns typically engage in various forms of psychotherapy, psycho-diagnostic evaluations and consultation. Seminars and didactic trainings enhance developing skills while Interns simulataneously serve as mentors to practicum students.
The Goodman Center's Internship program offers 4 full-time intern positions yearly with a stipend of 20K. Effective for the 2020-2021 cohort, our internship program is fully affiliated with the doctoral program from Albizu University. We only accept applicants from Albizu University who have successfully completed all the requirements necessary and have been verified to be Internship Eligible by the doctoral program's Director of Clinical Training.
