Brief description of the typical work day for a postdoc at this training site Fellows typically work from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Their clinical activities and duties vary by rotation and clinic. Our Fellowship brochure provides detailed information about the clinical activities for each of our emphasis tracks. We do not expect any changes to the structure of our program for the 2024-2025 training year. An updated version of our brochure will be available online by mid-September 2023. Interview process description:

Interviews will be conducted from mid-January through late January. Candidates will be contacted by a staff member from the track(s) to which they have applied to schedule an interview.  Applicants will interview individually with 2 staff members per track.  Applicants will have the opportunity to meet (virtually) with the current Fellow in the track(s) to which they are applying and there will be an informational group meeting with training director (other applicants will participate in this meeting).  In the spirit of equity and reducing disparities, we are conducting all interviews and meetings via a videoconference platform.

Program Description

Thank you for your interest in postdoctoral training in Clinical Psychology at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.  Our Clinical Psychology Fellowship Program offers five emphasis areas within the umbrella of Clinical Psychology. These emphasis areas include:

  • Geropsychology& Integrated Care (1 position)
  • Integrated Care Psychology/Primary Care Mental Health Integration (1 position)
  • Impatient Medical Care (1 position)
  • LGBTQ+ Health Care (1 position)
  • Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (1 position)

All fellowship positions are for one year.  Our Postdoctoral Fellowship Program began in 2008. The Commission on Accreditation completed its first Site Visit for the purpose of initial accreditation by APA in October 2012 and awarded our Fellowship program 7 years of full APA Accreditation.  We had a site visit for re-accreditation in October 2019 and we were awarded 10 years full accreditation from APA.  Our next site visit will be in 2029.
