Program Description

Citrus Health Network, Inc. has defined its training philosophy to reflect a "practitioner informed by the literature" orientation. Postdoctoral residents receive training and exposure to empirically supported treatments through seminars, colloquia, supervision, review and discussion. Residents are expected to enter the training program with an understanding of fundamental principles and are expected to practice more independently. Unlike the predoctoral internship, which provides a wide range of experiences in different service areas throughout the agency, the postdoctoral residency program provides a more intensive experience in a single service area or program. Residents are expected to provide direct services to clients. In an effort to continue the professional development of trainees, the resident positions are designed to encourage residents in becoming comfortable in leadership roles.

Treatment experiences are available in a broad array of programs:

  • Children’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CCSU)
  • Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit (ACSU)
  • Outpatient Psychotherapy
  • Adult Primary Care
  • Maternal/Pediatrics Primary Care
  • Statewide Inpatient Psychiatric Program (SIPP)/ Center for Adolescent Treatment Services (CATS)
  • Foster Care Programs
  • Early Childhood Development (ECD)

Training is in the area of Clinical Psychology with the goal of preparing candidates for licensure and subsequent Board Certification.

This program offers:

  • A rich program of didactic seminars, colloquia & supervision with a large faculty body
  • Emphasis in the integration of science and practice with sensitivity to cultural diversity and individual differences
  • A multiethnic, largely Hispanic population
  • Opportunity for program development, training and expansion
  • Opportunity to gain experience in supervising and mentoring others
  • Experience conducting and presenting research

This program aims to:

  1. Increase and refine resident's ability to integrate clinical theory and practice in the application of knowledge, assessment, and clinical skills in the practice of psychology.
  2. Use critical thinking to identify and respond to diversity.
  3. Heighten the resident's sense of professionalism.
