Program Description

MICAPT has TWO open fellowship positions in our Adult Clinical Health Psychology program to start August 30, 2024.  This is a two year fellowship which specializes in placing graduates immediatley into leadership positions in medical education. The program follows a clinician-educator model that allows fellows to

1) develop advanced competency in Clinical Health Psychology,

2) assume leadership roles in Medical Education,

3) develop expertise in hospital and ambulatory practice involving a transdisciplinary model of care; and

4) make meaningful scholarly contributions to the field.

Specialty experiences include a wide variety of health psychology services: Integrated Primary Care, Chronic Pain Management, Inpatient Consultation Liaison, Rehabilitation, Bariatrics, and Geriatrics. Additionally, a major component of this fellowship includes Medical Education. Fellows are expected to provide teaching to resident physicians in various specialties and medical students from Michigan State University Colleges of Human Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine.  Postdoctoral Fellows will receive academic faculty appointments at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.

Didactic training is weekly, combined with other Health Psychology and Rehabilitation post doctoral programs in the city which promotes lively discussions and in-depth learning. Robust Wellness and Cultural Diversity programs are integrated into the curriculum as well.  The following seminar series make up our didactic curriculum, and are core components of fellows' training in the program:

- Professional Values & Attitudes of a Clinical Health Psychologist

- Clinical Health Psychology Interventions

- Medical Education, Teaching, and Supervision

- Psychopharmacology

- Rehabilitation Psychology

- Individual and Cultural Diversity

- Management, Leadership, and Advocacy

- Wellness

- Journal Club

MICAPT is an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to recruiting and retaining members of diverse backgrounds. MICAPT also stands with all colleagues and trainees of color against systematic racism and oppression. We respect the diversity and identity of all applicants and would be honored to be considered by those from all backgrounds.

Be on the cutting edge of both Health Psychology and Medical Education by joining our dynamic team! We have a long standing history of placing graduates immediatley into leadership positions in academic health centers.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Positions likely to be filled by 2/26/2024.  Applicants may apply through APPIC or by emailing materials to MICAPT@mclaren.org
