Program Description

The 2000 hour postdoctoral fellowship at the Georgia State University Counseling Center balances individual, group and couples therapy with program development and outreach. This full-time position assumes 25 hours of direct contact per week within a 44 hour week (inluding lunches). Postdocs also participate in case conference, group supervision, and crisis intake supervision on a weekly basis. The Counseling Center's orientation and training programs stress multicultural counseling and cultural humility as a key component of the learning year. Fellows co-lead one of the multiple interpersonal process, skills training, or support therapy groups offered at the Center each year. They lead peer psychoeducational training, conduct walk-in initial consultations, give outreach presentations, and treat individual clients and couples with a wide range of presenting concerns. Consultation and campus outreach activities may include classroom and student organization presentations, stress management and suicide response/education presentations; serving as liaisons to campus departments and organizations such as: university housing, Greek organizations, LGBT organizations, Multicultural Center, Office for Students with Disabilities, Student Health Clinic. Professional development in the GA licensure application process and EPPP prepreation are also stressed and supported as part of the post-doc training year (i.e. post doctoral group supervision, provision of EPPP study materials, etc).
