Interview process description:

Subsequent to our mission-aligned faculty review of all completed applications, the program will invite selected applicants for virtual interview.  The program will use the online interview scheduling system developed by the National Matching Service for the 2026 APPIC match.  Applicants will be notified of their interview status on or before the deadline date of 12/15/2025.

Applicants offered interviews are invited to participate in a structured virtual interview day via Teams (~9:30am - 2:30pm). These virtual interview days will be conducted in January on select Mondays and Fridays (tentative dates delineated above) and will include a Psychology Division and internship training program overview and virtual tour, individual interviews with several training faculty supervisors, and a meeting with the current intern class.  Post-interview, faculty emails will be provided to allow for follow up questions as warranted.

After all applicants are interviewed, the faculty meet as a group to develop the rank order list for each training track. Preparation for and fit with track and program are priority considerations in decision-making.

Program Description

The mission of the Texas Children's Hospital Psychology Internship is to advance the profession of psychology and maximize child health outcomes through exemplary training in individualized evidence-based practices of psychology. Our psychology internship program provides broad-based clinical training - with an emphasis in pediatric/child populations - that will prepare emerging psychologists for productive and meaningful careers in a variety of contexts. As part of our mission, we are committed to providing the foundations for successful post-doctoral specialization in the fields of pediatric psychology, clinical child and adolescent psychology, and pediatric neuropsychology. Our faculty aspires to train highly competent professionals who will uphold a strong commitment to scientist practitioner values, demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to developmental considerations and cultural/individual differences, and be effective at contextually-relevant care as well as interprofessional teamwork. Our patient population is racially, ethnically, and linguistically diverse, providing interns with experiential training in delivering services to families from a broad range of backgrounds.

The program currently offeres three psychology intern positions with an emphasis in clinical child / pediatric health psychology (Track I), one position with a pediatric neuropsychology focus (Track II) and one position with an autism spectrum disorder focus (Track III).  When an intern matches to a training track, the intern can expect to participate in the major rotations corresponding to the core training area(s) of the track. The program's structure provides for both depth and breadth of clinical training and allows the program to individualize an intern's training year. MAJOR ROTATIONS: 1) Pediatric Neuropsychology, 2) Pediatric Health Psychology, 3) OCD & Anxiety Disorders, 4) Preschool, and 5) Autism.  MINOR ROTATIONS 1) Brief Behavior Intervention, 2) Primary Care Psychology, 3) Pediatric Health Psychology, 4) OCD & Anxiety Disorders, 5) Autism (evaluation OR intervention), 6) Inpatient Rehabilitation, 7) Pediatric Neuropsychology, 8) Diagnostic Interviewing, and 9) Research Rotation
