We expect to conduct interviews between February 1 and 9. 2024. Interviews are conducted by two Faculty members and some may include a current Fellow. On-site interviews are preferred particularly for applicants who are not from the island so you also get some exposure to the culture, but virtual interviews are available. The interview is semi-structured and is conducted in Spanish and English (mostly in Spanish). The interview length is about 60 minutes.
We adhere to the APPIC Postdoctoral Selection Standards. The Common Hold Date approach mirrors the widely-practiced graduate school admissions process. It allows postdoctoral programs to make offers at any time following the completion of interviews; applicants can then accept, decline, or hold an offer until the designated CHD. Only one offer can be held at a time by an applicant. As the offer and acceptance process naturally unfolds, it is expected that most offers and acceptances will occur prior to the CHD. We anticipate making offers the week of January 9, 2023, after completing our interview process.
Please see the APPIC website for details on the APPIC Postdoctoral Selection Standards and the CHD process for the 2024-25 application season: https://www.appic.org/Postdocs/Postdoctoral-Selection-Standards. We will consider making a reciprocal offer prior to the CHD if our top applicant receives a bonafide offer from another postdoctoral training program.
The VA Caribbean offers a Postdoctoral Fellowship program in Clinical Psychology with two possible areas of emphasis: Women’s Integrative Mental Health Services and Primary Care Mental Health Integration. Prospective applicants may apply to one or both emphasis areas of the Fellowship. The Program is fully accredited by the APA. See brochure for more details.
The Women’s Integrative Mental Health Services area of emphasis within our Fellowship Program follows the VA Health Initiative that underscores the importance of ensuring that women Veterans' gender-specific health care needs are attended to. We aim at developing psychology professionals beyond traditional lines, who can integrate and develop expertise related to gender-specific and cultural diversity issues and support the development of a cultural and gender sensitive approach to psychotherapy. The two Fellows training in this program service female veterans from the Women's Clinic (primary care), Mental Health Clinic, and Trauma Center.
The Primary Care Mental Health Integration area of emphasis features an interdisciplinary approach to identify and address the behavioral health needs among primary care patients with the purpose of early identification, prevention of illness and health promotion thus supporting patient's capacity for increased functionality. This model is one of collaboration between primary health, mental health and the patient that has proven to be highly effective in achieving behavior change and self agency in patients. The two Fellows in this emphasis area become part of an interdisciplinary setting embedded within the Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT).
