Site Name: Wasatch Behavioral Health
Department: Predoctoral Psychology Internship Program
Wasatch Behavioral Health anticipates offering a virtual (zoom) or in person open house for applicants seeking a 2024-2025 internship.
Applicants invited to interview can choose from three interview days, typically lasting about 4 hours each. Interviews include individual interviews with faculty and the training director, an introduction to the program, informal interaction with faculty, and discussion with current interns. Interns will be notified via email if they are offered an interview with the program.
The internship is in a multidisciplinary outpatient environment serving all age groups in a community behavioral health organization. The training program is based on a local clinical-scientist model. Interns serve in one of the family clinics doing direct therapy and psychological evaluation/assessment. Training opportunities include a wide variety of therapeutic interventions; disability, neuropsychological and general psychological evaluations. In addition to offering educational and experiential opportunities for treatment of acute and chronic disorders, opportunities are also readily available for working with personality disorders. Interns are encouraged to develop treatment methods in individual, group, and family interventions. Supervision includes 2+ hours per week of individual supervision and 2 hours per week of group supervision. Interns are required to apply continuous outcome measures throughout the therapeutic process in order to track progress and to become oriented to a culture of clinical accountability. In an effort to provide diversity of thought and professional interaction, interns are required to maintain regular contact with other professionals within the organization for consultation and case conferencing regarding preferred client care. Didactic training (2+ hours per week) includes a wide variety of foundational and functional topics important to psychologists in a community behavioral health organization in this region of the country. Didactic education faculty includes a number of psychologists and other licensed mental health providers on the WBH staff and within a variety of community settings who are known for their knowledge and experience in specific subject areas. Experience is provided in research such as would typically be found in a CMHC environment. Additional experience and training is provided in a supervision model, including a peer supervision experience. Post-doctoral residency may be possible. Additional information may be located on our website at Wasatch Behavioral Health Health Service Psychology Internship Program.
