Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns work side-by-side with licensed psychologists and other licensed mental health providers in an energetic and busy, interdisciplinary team environment. A minimum of 15 psychological assessments will be conducted throughout the training year. Interns will work with children and adults in individual therapy and may work in group and family therapy. Interns participate in a research project relevant to the program or parent agency. Interns engage in a peer supervision experience for one hour weekly.

Interview process description:

Wasatch Behavioral Health will offer virtual (zoom) interviews for applicants seeking a 2027-2028 internship. 

Applicants invited to interview can choose from three interview days, typically lasting about 4 hours each. Interviews include individual interviews with faculty and the training director, an introduction to the program, a writing prompt, and informal interaction with faculty and current interns. Interns will be notified via NMS email if they are offered an interview with the program.

Other Requirements: All employees in the Public Mental Health System of Utah are required to pass a criminal background check (BCI) and substance/drug screen. Psychology interns will be required to do both of these.
Program Description

The internship is in a multidisciplinary outpatient environment serving all age groups in a community behavioral health organization. The training program is based on a local clinical-scientist model. Interns conduct therapy and psychological evaluation/assessment. Training opportunities include a wide variety of therapeutic interventions as well as disability evaluations, neuropsychological evaluations, and general psychological evaluations. The training program offers educational and experiential opportunities for treatment of acute and chronic disorders. Interns are encouraged to develop treatment methods in individual, group, and family interventions. Supervision includes 2+ hours per week of individual supervision and 2 hours per week of group supervision. Interns are required to continuously administer outcome measures throughout the therapeutic process in order to track progress and to become oriented to a culture of clinical accountability. In an effort to provide diversity of thought and professional interaction, interns are required to maintain regular contact with other professionals within the organization for consultation and case conferencing regarding preferred client care. Didactic training (2+ hours per week) includes a wide variety of foundational and functional topics important to psychologists in a community behavioral health organization in this region of the country. Didactic education faculty includes a number of psychologists and other licensed mental health providers working at WBH and a other members in a variety of community settings who are known for their knowledge and experience in specific subject areas. Additional experience and training is provided in a supervision model, including a peer supervision experience. Post-doctoral residency may be possible.
