Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Please see our website for additional information about the various rotations we offer. Though there are differences in our rotations, all interns spend time providing psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and consultation to children and adolescents throughout our hospital system. Fridays are largely devoted to training seminars and peer supervision. Interview process description:

After the application deadline, all applications will be reviewed by the Psychology Training Committee. We will then select a number of candidates to interview and offer one of three dates in January to participate in virtual interviews with our team.

We will interview approximately 45 internship candidates over the course of three days: 1/5, 1/8, and 1/9/2024. Per APPIC's recommendation, we will ONLY be offering virtual interviews for the coming interview season. On-site interviews will not be offered, even to local candidates, as we want to keep the process equal and fair for all interested applicants. On each interview date, we will conduct individual interviews with candidates via video platform. You may have more than one interview, depending on how many of our rotations you have applied for and have been chosen to interview for. Our current interns will also be available to interviewees to answer questions and provide their perspectives. They are not involved in the interview or ranking process. Following the individual interviews, candidates are invited to have a virtual lunch with our current interns. We are also currently working out a plan for applicants to be able to take virtual tours of the various units/rotations within Primary Children's Hospital. Check back to this page periodically for additional updates. Our plans are fluid, and we are looking forward to the opportunity to get creative and innovative with our interviews this year!

Program Description

The Primary Children's Hospital (PCH) Psychology Internship Program follows a practitioner-scholar model within a pediatric behavioral health environment. The program's mission is to increase intern competence in clinical skill areas, consistent with PCH's mission, vision, and values, and guided by evidence-based and ethical practices. The internship year is organized around the general competencies set forth in the APA Standards of Accreditation. The internship program's goal is to prepare doctoral level interns for entry-level psychology post-doctoral or resident positions, with a child/adolescent and family focus, in a variety of settings. The program is designed to be an experiential work and training opportunity, wherein interns receive service-oriented diagnostic and treatment experiences that are sequential, cumulative, and graded in complexity, adding to interns' professional development, helping them make the transition from psychology intern to professional psychologist.

For the coming training year (2024-2025), we will have six internship positions: one intern who will primarily conduct individual and family therapy in our inpatient and child/adolescent day treatment programs, as well as conduct psychological assessments on our behavioral health continuum; two interns who are primarily based in a psychiatric outpatient clinic but who also provide assessment and consultation in our behavioral health continuum; one pediatric psychology intern who will provide C&L services in our hospital, participate in medical specialty clinics, and see pediatric psychology outpatients in our pediatric behavioral health clinic; one Hem/ONC/BMT intern who will provide outpatient therapy in our pediatric behavioral health clinic and intervention, assessment, and consultation in both outpatient and inpatient Hem/Onc/BMT units; and one neuropsychology-focused intern who will conduct neuropsychological assessments, engage in C&L work, and provide outpatient therapy in our pediatric behavioral health clinic. *Please note that we will have 5 different match codes, and you will need to specify for which rotation(s) you are applying in your application.* 

In addition to site-specific training opportunities and weekly individual, face-to-face supervision, all interns attend four weekly, structured training activities--individual therapy seminar (8 month span), diversity seminar/family therapy seminar (each for a 4-month span), peer supervision, and a didactic seminar series organized around internship class needs. During the summer months, interns spend one-half day per week on a mini-rotation, gaining additional experience in an area of particular interest mutually agreed on by intern and primary supervisor, and consistent with training needs.
