As of this writing, The University of Florida Health Science Center Internship will be interviewing on the following dates: January 10, 17 & 24 2020. Applicants will be notified of on interview invitation by e-mail. The interview day will begin with a group meeting with Dr. Waxenberg, training director, for the first hour. Then all interviewees will have at least 3 individual meetings with faculty members. Requests to meet with specific staff are quite welcome. Applicants will also have a group meeting with all of the faculty in their area of interest and then have lunch and a tour of facilities with the current interns in the applicant's area of interest (child/pediatric, health, neuropsychology). The day ends with another group meeting with Dr. Waxenberg. We strongly encourage applicants to do an on-site interview in order to get a good sense of our program, the atmosphere and the people to decide if this is a good match for you.
The Internship Program combines general training in the practice of clinical psychology in a health care setting together with more intensive focused training in one of three areas: (1) clinical child/pediatric psychology; (2) medical/health psychology; or (3) clinical neuropsychology. Focused training allows the intern to concentrate intensively on a major area of professional interest. By the conclusion of the internship year, all interns are expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge and competence with respect to their area of focus within clinical psychology (i.e., clinical child/pediatric psychology, medical/health psychology, clinical neuropsychology) as well as competence in the general clinical skills needed for sucess in each area of focus. Interns see a broad range of therapy patients, shoring up their general clinical skills. Interns may also complete a research project with a faculty supervisor of their choosing. The time allotted for research is approximately 10%.
