Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Each day varies! A combination of the following: training seminars, individual therapy, group therapy, provision of supervision, staff meeting, case consultation, outreach presentations to various populations, consultation with students/faculty/staff. It's hard work and we are very committed to and passionate about what we do. We also like to smile/laugh when possible and connect with each other in doing our work.

Interview process description:

Candidates who are considered finalists for the internship will be invited to attend a preferred on-campus interview.  Typically, 27-32 candidates are invited for full-day interviews that provide opportunity to observe a staff or case management meeting, talk with small groups of staff throughout the day, and have lunch with current interns.  Some financial assistance is available for travel expenses, with a hotel room provided for an overnight stay.  These interviews provide candidates with the opportunity to meet the professional staff and learn about the individual theoretical approaches to counseling and psychotherapy, styles of supervision, professional activities, and involvement in training activities.  The interview day intends to provide candidates with a breadth and depth of information about the internship and the CCSD, as well as an opportunity for CCSD staff to become acquainted with potential interns.

Program Description

The doctoral internship in health service psychology offered by the Center for Counseling and Student Development at the University of Delaware is designed to provide supervised experience in individual and group counseling, consultation, student development programs, career development, and supervision. The staff has a deep commitment to training and supervision and see the internship as a critical year in refinement of clinical skills and development of professional identity as a psychologist.
