Interview process description:

In the past, MSOP hosted in-person group interviews.  Through the COVID-19 pandemic we learned how to offer virtual interviews with ease.  We plan to continue to offer virtual interviews.  In-person interviews are optional and if something an applicant would like to consider, we likely will be able to offer a physical tour and an opportunity to meet with several current supervisors, and our current interns.  For the virtual interviews, we have created virtual tours and ways for applicants to interact with and meet supervisors, staff, and interns as well.

Program Description

The MSOP Psychology Doctoral Internship Program is an individual site with two tracks.  One track is located in Moose Lake, MN (Match #: 209011)and the other is in St. Peter, MN (Match #: 209012).  Moose Lake admits clients to the program who are on judicial hold or who have been civilly committed.  Once a client has been finally committed, he/she is given the opportunity to participate in treatment.  Phase I, Phase II and non-treatment participants currently reside at the Moose Lake facility.   In Phase I treatment, clients learn emotional self-regulation, behavior management and they establish their motivation for change.  These treatment targets establish the foundation for success in the later phases of MSOP treatment.  In Phase II treatment, clients identify and address the underlying issues of their offending behaviors, which include their sexual and non-sexual motivations and decision making related to their sex offenses and general offending patterns.  Once clients have successfully completed Phase II treatment, they are transferred to St. Peter to begin their Phase III treatment work.  Moose Lake, MN is in the upper half of the State and approximately 40 minutes from Duluth, which is right on Lake Superior. 

The MSOP-St. Peter campus is comprised of continued conventional programming (Phase II and Phase III), the Alternative Program (Phase I, II, and III), a program designed for clients with executive functioning deficits, and Community Preparation Services (CPS), a location designed for clients who have been granted transfer outside the secure perimeter by the Special Review Board (SRB) and the judicial appeal panel, for the later stages of MSOP treatment.  St. Peter is in the lower half of the State and approximately an hour from the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area.  

Our Psychology Doctoral Internship Program is best suited for students seeking experiences within a secure program providing sex offender treatment to civilly committed clients that will complement their previous training. Successful applicants will possess a solid foundation in psychological assessment and therapeutic intervention, will have completed or be in the process of completing a formal dissertation, and must have successfully defended the dissertation proposal prior to the internship start date. Doctoral students from Clinical and Forensic Psychology programs who have obtained approval from their faculty and are internship-eligible may apply. Students from APA-approved programs are preferred. MSOP is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
