Other Fringe Benefits (not indicated above): All interns are required by the consortium to have current health insurance coverage. Access to health benefits will be provided to all interns but may vary across sites. Annual PTO will be provided to all interns. With regard to Family and Medical Leave extensions during the internship year, agency parameters will dictate extended leave options. Interns are responsible for discussing leave requests with their supervisor and working in coordination with their agency/site. Not all sites have the ability to provide extensions. UT-PIC interns have access to numerous resources. Funding for travel within the state of Utah is provided in order for interns to complete required training experiences. Assessment and other training materials are provided by each training site, and additional materials that may be needed may be purchased using Consortium funding with Training Committee approval. Each intern additionally has access to administrative and IT support through their primary training site.
Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site A typical day of an intern may vary based on their primary site. UT-PIC interns are primarily placed at one training site. Time at each site includes clinical work, supervision, and all tasks related to or in support of the clinical work. All interns spend 10% of their time engaged in group didactic activities and group supervision primarily via videoconference. Some training sites also offer interns the opportunity to complete elective rotations within their site. Elective rotations vary by site and from year-to-year, but might include outreach, autism, forensic, homeless, substance use disorders, child day treatment, etc. The Intermountain Healthcare Psychiatry and Counseling interns in St. George and Park City spend the day providing individual and group therapy as well as some assessment. At Utah Tech, a typical day involves brief therapy, crisis intervention, and campus mental health outreach activities. At Valley Behavioral Health, interns have the opportunity for a broad training experience and split their time between treatment (individual, group, and family therapy) and psychological evaluation services embedded within the Child, Youth and Family Outpatient clinic in West Valley City of Salt Lake County. Solstice Counseling & Wellness is a private practice clinic so a typical day might include intake assessments, individual/couples/family/group therapy, and psychological testing or assessment. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend monthly meetings at the local Children's Justice Center and facilitate free community workshops. All UT-PIC interns are also required to complete three (3) UT-PIC mini-rotations at other training sites. The year begins with an Orientation in southern Utah that focuses on orientation to the UT-PIC program and Utah-specific issues related to psychological practice. Each intern also travels to Utah Tech University for a multiple day rotation focused on outreach and advocacy. Each intern travels to our Salt Lake City area location for a two-day experience that emphasizes intensive training in an evidence based modality of therapy. All UT-PIC interns participate in the following didactic activities: • Didactic seminars via videoconference – 2 hours/week • Weekly group supervision – 2 hours/week • Weekly individual supervision – 2 hours/week • Direct clinical service – 10-20 hours/week • Rotation/Orientation in likely in Cedar City to gain exposure to Utah-specific issues in psychological practice – 1 day • Rotation at Utah Tech University to gain experience with outreach and advocacy at a university counseling center– 1-2 days • Rotation at Intermountain Healthcare in order to gain exposure to a community mental health setting and focused evidence-based treatment topic – 2 days • Graduation – 1 day Additional training and consultation opportunities may be available at each site.

Interview process description:

UT-PIC conducts interviews via videoconference, as we realize that travel would be cost-prohibitive for many applicants. For that reason, all interviews will be conducted via videoconference. For applicants who are unable to utilize videoconferencing, UT-PIC allow a telephonic interview via a conference line. Interviews last approximately 45 minutes and are conducted by one or more members of the consortium faculty including the primary supervisor of the sites(s) that have selected you for interview. Although we do not conduct in person interviews, applicants are welcome to visit any of the UT-PIC training sites if they wish to tour the site, and to contact the primary site supervisor after the initial interview with any follow up questions. 

All applicants are invited to join current UT-PIC interns for a group discussion about our training, the various sites, and living in Utah. It is completely optional but a great way to ask questions in a more informal setting.

Program Description

The Utah Psychology Internship Consortium (UT-PIC; https://ut-pic.org/ ) pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology is seeking qualified applicants for the upcoming internship year. UT-PIC is comprised of four agencies organized to provide a broad, high-quality and culturally-relevant training program to support the preparation and retention of doctoral level psychologists in Utah. We offer an annual internship stipend of $38,000 plus benefits. 

Utah Tech University Booth Wellness Center, and Intermountain Psychiatry and Counseling - St. George and are in beautiful St. George, UT, located near Zion National Park, and less than two hours away from Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and Brian Head ski resort. There are numerous hiking and biking trails in the scenic red rocks of southern Utah. The Utah Tech University site is a college counseling center and focuses primarily on brief therapy with young adults.  Intermountan Psychiatry and Counseling - St. George provides individual and group therapy as well as assessment services.  Alternatively, Valley Behavioral Health in Salt Lake City and Tooele, UT provides a mix of urban and rural experiences, with access to Salt Lake City’s cultural scene along with Utah’s outdoor recreation opportunities. Valley Behavioral Health offers a balance of therapy and assessment with combination of child, adolescent, family, and adult experiences.  Solstice Counseling & Wellness is located in a Heber City, a picturesque mountain valley about 50 minutes southeast of Salt Lake City, which is minutes away from world class skiing, fly fishing, golfing, mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. The intern will receive in-depth training in psychotherapy and assessment as well as acquire the fundamentals on running a private practice.  Intermountain Psychiatry and Counseling - Park City is neslted in the heart of the Wasatch mountans and offers a world renowned destination for outdoor recreation, stunning scenery and mountain town charm.  It is a convenient 35 minutes from Salt Lake City airport. This small outpatient clinic serves adolescents and adults for therapy and assessment services.  

UT-PIC’s first intern class began in August of 2019.  We are fully accredited with an initial accreditation date of April 2020.  UT-PIC does participate in the APPIC Match using the following Match numbers: Utah Tech University in St. George, UT (APPIC code: 248711), Intermountain Health Psychiatry and Counseling - St. George in St. George, UT (APPIC code: 248717), Intermountain Health Psychiatry and Counseling - Park City in Park City, UT (APPIC code: 248716) and Solstice Counseling & Wellness in Heber, UT (APPIC code: 248715).  Valley Behavioral Health will not be accepting an intern for the next Match cycle.
