Kaiser Permanente, Fresno, provides generalist training in clinical psychology within a large HMO setting. Our supervising psychologists represent a wide variety of clinical orientations within the culturally diverse, multi-cultural San Joaquin Valley. Assessment training is ongoing throughout the year and focuses on Adults.

Assessment w/ Neuropsycholgy Emphasis: Adults 18 and older.
The Adult EBT Generalist track provides training in modern Evidence-Based therapy techniques: CBT, ACT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and other interventions proven to reduce symptoms and support positive patient outcomes. Providers will maintain a caseload of 8-10 patients, with presenting issues including depressive disorders, trauma, and other comorbidities.
The Intensive Outpatient Program- Adult track assists those in crisis, providing 6 to 9 hours of treatment a week. A group format (with some case management services) is used to provide support and skills training. The IOP team utilizes a cohesive multi-disciplinary approach (psychologists, psychiatrists, MFT, LCSW and Recreational Therapist) to help prevent psychiatric hospitalization or provide transitional services from hospital to general psychotherapy clinics.
The Assessment w/ Neuropsychology Empahsis track focuses on developing competencies to pursue a career in assessment. The program provides rigorous training in interview techniques, administration and scoring of psychometric instruments, patient feedback and treatment planning, as well as collaboration with allied health professionals.

Addiction Medicine Recovery Services exposes the intern to various stages of the recovery process in a group format alongside an experienced addiction medicine provider.

Groups: options include DBT, ACT, CBT for Anxiety, CBT for Depression, CBT for PTSD, all co-led with licensed staff.

Psychoeducational Classes: Manualized curricula for Stress Management, Depression, Anxiety, Anger Management, and Couples Communication.
- Intensive Outpatient Program-Adolescent: intensive treatment for Teens 13 – 18.
Assessment: Interns are required to complete 8 assessment batteries. These may include basic neuropsychological testing, ADHD testing, and personality testing. There are 2 neuropsychologists (one of whom is Board Certified) on the supervision staff.
Supervision: 2 individual hours per week (one for clinical work and one for assessment) and 2 group supervision hours per week (one for clinical work and 1 for assessment). All supervisors are happy to provide on the spot consultation as needed. Supervisors take an active role in supporting interns' professional development (e.g., support for post-doc applications and licensing questions). The interoffice communication system allows for quick responses to questions.
Ethics and Professional Seminar Series: Each week a 2-hour didactic presentation provides education provided by regional staff as well as local experts. Topics are varied and emphasize application to practice with cultural sensitivity.
Community Service: Our interns are afforded the rewarding opportunity to give back to Fresno. This year we will provide psychoeducation to older adults living in low-income senior communities in the area.
Resources: Interns learn in a friendly, well-developed internship program (23 years) which is open to new ideas. Our goal is to provide a strong foundation to work within a multi-disciplinary team. By the end of the internship year, our interns have the skills and professionalism to enter a variety of post-doctoral positions with confidence.
Highlights: Fresno is centrally located in California and a quick trip to the Bay Area, Central Coast, Southern California and Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks. The Fresno area is considered one of the most affordable locations in all of California. Our site has free and ample parking. Kaiser, Fresno has its own Farmer’s Market each Wednesday and there are weekly Farmer’s Markets and vendor events in both Fresno and Clovis. Kaiser is located near shopping, coffee, and dining.
