Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Community Based Programs Track - this includes two major programs: -Shaping Success/Healthy Behaviors - Individual and group work with sex offenders, sex offender risk assessment, and assessments for treatment planning. Work may be divided between neurotypical clients mandated to treatment due to their offense, or clients with IDD who have a history of acting out which often includes sexually inappropriate behavior. Regular collateral meetings with families, case managers, probation/parole agents and others involved in the care team for the client also assist with coordination of care. Some clients with IDD/ASD have also been referred for other types of treatment, with a focus on more general therapeutic interventions for anger management, depression, or PTSD. -Crossroads Competency Restoration - Working with juveniles for competency restoration and developmentally delayed clients referred from regional centers for competency, and regular collateral contacts with attorneys and case managers regarding client progress.

Other Requirements: For those wishing to apply to the Advanced Assessment Track - they must have experience in assessment beyond the classroom, although interns in all programs will still have the opportunity to assist with some advanced assessments as they develop through the training year.
Program Description

Psychological Assessment, Inc has one training track known as Community Based Programs (CBP). CBP is further subdivided into the Shaping Success program, the Healthy Behaviors program, and Crossroads Competency Restoration.

Shaping Success focuses on providing services to sex offenders on probation or parole who have been mandated to attend treatment, as well as services for individuals who have voluntarily sought out services for help with their sexual behavior.

The Healthy Behaviors program is focused on helping individuals with developmental delay learn appropriate boundaries and communication skills, in addition to healthy sexual practices.

The Crossroads Competency Restoration program helps to restore juveniles and/or individuals with developmental delay to competence so they can stand trial.

Interns will frequently be expected to carry clients from several different programs based on need. For example, while an intern may primarily work with clients who are mandated to treatment due to sexual offenses (Shaping Success), they may take on other clients from Community Based Programs to round out their schedule and ensure they are obtaining the required number of hours to meet internship and licensing requirements.

It is also worth noting that interns who demonstrate high levels of skill in forensic report writing using the assessment tools common in the Community Based Programs track will have oppurtunities to work with senior staff and program managers on more complex forensic evaluations. So, for example, a clinician who proves proficient at writing reports for the Crossroads Comeptency Restoration program may be asked to assist supervisors and senior staff in conducting initial evaluations of competency for the courts. Similiarly, an intern who shows interest and proficiency in writing reports using the risk and recidivism measures common in Shaping Success may be provided oppurtunities to assist with other forensic evaluations, such as Fitness for Duty or Sexuall Violent Predator evaluations. In short, those who show significant interest and capability with the forensic writing style along with excellent timliness and attention to detail in their day-to-day assessment reports will be provided opprtunities to work on a variety of forensic and neuropsychological evaluations, according to their level of interest and availability.
