Student Counseling & Psychological Services (SCPS) is the counseling center for Auburn University students, so an SCPS Intern has the opportunity to work with a range of clinical concerns and diverse aspects of identity. Interns are trained as generalists in this 2000-hour placement. While the training is directly applicable for UCC work, the skills are readily transferable to other settings.
Service activities include individual and group counseling, emergency/on-call, intakes, supervision of a practicum student, and outreach. The Group Supervision, Supervision of Supervision Seminar, and Intern Didactic Seminar all meet year-round, and there are optional rotations that have included Eating Concerns, Group, Outreach, Survivors of Sexual Assault, and Academic/Research. Candidates who are open to giving and receiving feedback, have an understanding of cultural humility, and are flexible will be the best fits for this program.
This internship program also has the opportunity to accomodate up to one Sport Psychology intern each training year. The components of the internship remain the same, though the intern on the Sport Psychology track will complete the majority of their clinical hours working with student athletes and will receive one hour of individual supervision through Counseling & Sport Psychology (CSP) at Auburn University. Applicants may rank the generalist track, the sport psychology track, or both.
