The Ottawa Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (OICBT) is a private practice located in Westboro, Ottawa, Ontario that endorses a scientist-practitioner approach to training that includes the delivery of evidence-based therapies, including CBT, DBT, and ACT. Our residency program is CPA-Accredited and is part of the Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs (CCPPP). We offer 5 residency positions with the opportunity to gain experience in a community-based private practice.
Adult Track - 3 positions
Adult-Youth Track - 2 positions
Residents will complete three rotations throughout their residency. These include two 12-month primary rotations and one 12-month (~1 day/week) secondary rotation.
- The two 12-month primary rotations include: 1) Mood and Anxiety Disorders Services and the 2) Intensive Assessment Clinic
- A 12-month secondary rotation is in the Intensive Treatment Stream. Residents may choose from one of the two intensive programs offered in the clinc: 1) DBT Group Therapy Program and the 2) Intensive Treatment Program (for Complex Mood and Anxiety-related Disorders, PTSD, & OCD). Residents may provide clinical services in either of the two intensive programs or a combination of the two, depending on clinic needs.
Additional compulsory activities include a Program Evaluation project and the Provision of Supervision to a Ph.D. student. Supplemental training experiences are available and may include Adult ADHD Group Therapy, Concurrent Disorders, Health Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, Women’s Mental Health, or Couples Therapy (when available). Professional development and training in CBT and related treatment modalities, assessment and diagnoses, and EDI are offered throughout the residency year within the context of our internal CBT training programs and workshop series. We are committed to preparing residents to become psychologists under supervised practice through training in core competencies of assessment, intervention, consultation, program evaluation/development, interpersonal relationships (e.g., therapeutic relationships), professional standards and ethics, diversity and individual differences, and supervision.
