Interview process description:

All interviews are conducted virtually via videoconference technology with no option for on-site interviews available. Those without videoconference access have the option of completing interviews via telephone. After initial application review, invitations are sent out to candidates selected for an interview via e-mail no later than November 20, 2023.  Separate interviews are held for the general/trauma tracks and the neuropsychology track of the internship. For the general and trauma tracks, the tentative interview dates are 12/6/2023, 1/5/2024, 1/10/2024, and 1/12/2024.  For the neuropsychology track, the tentative interview dates are 12/8/2023, 12/15/2023, 1/5/2024, and 1/12/2024.  For both the general/trauma and neuropsychology tracks, the interview day begins with an introductory overview presentation that describes the internship training experience and is followed by a series of individual interviews.

Program Description

We have 4 general internship positions (3 general track and 1 trauma track)  and 4 neuropsychology track positions available. The general internship is based in a public urban medical center, which is a primary teaching facility for Emory University School of Medicine. The general track consists of 3 rotations; adult, youth/child, and elective. Training is available in adult psychiatric inpatient units, adult psychiatric emergency services, adult behavioral health outpatient intervention services, adult and youth/child outpatient assessment services, adult and youth/child medical services, and a variety of specialized elective services. The program is a generalist one based on the scientist practitioner model of training. The trauma track consists of a year long experience providing assessment and psychotherapy primarily with women who have experienced traumatic events, particularly interpersonal violence. The trauma track intern also provides psychological prevention and intervention services for health care workers who experience stress associated with exposures to bio-contaminants in the work setting.  Additionally the trauma track intern completes minor elective rotations which are selected based on training needs and interests.

The neuropsychology track, which is based in a university medical center setting, includes 2 intern positions with an adult/pediatric concentration and 2 intern positions with an adult/geriatric concentration.  All neuropsychology track interns complete a 6-month major adult diagnostic assessment rotation.  Adult/pediatric concentration interns also complete a 6-month major rotation on a pediatric neuropsychology service and adult/geriatric concentration interns also complete a 6-month major neuropsychology rotation on an adult/older adult neurology service.  In addition to these major rotations focusing on neuropsychological assessment of patients with acquired brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, neoplasm, and other neurological conditions, interns on the neuropsychology track complete two minor intervention rotations.  These minor rotations provide opportunities for interns to gain experience with psychotherapeutic and behavioral health interventions in neurological rehabilitation and psychiatric settings.
