Program Description

The West Bay Consortium is well-integrated into the Kaiser Permanente health care system. The central San Francisco Bay region encompasses the cultural and geographic heart of the Bay Area. The training sites of the West Bay Consortium are located in the cities of Redwood City, San Francisco, and South San Francisco/Daly City. The Departments of Psychiatry at each site provides psychotherapy, psychological testing, and psycho-educational programs. Each department includes an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that provides services to recently hospitalized individuals, or individuals at risk for psychiatric hospitalization. Certain sites in the West Bay Consortium include Addiction Medicine Programs which offer intensive chemical dependency and addiction medicine services. One site provides services for those patients with chronic pain/behavioral health concerns. Certain departments offer Neuropsychological assessment services. Each site runs many different groups such as Depression, Anxiety, and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT). All residents are required to complete 40 hours per week over a 12-month period. In addition to the required two hours of individual supervision weekly by a psychologist, the resident also participates in two or more hours of group supervision, case conference, and/or team meetings and a two-hour weekly seminar. Residents are also encouraged to attend departmental grand rounds and seminars. Residents at some sites will also have the opportunity to teach and gain experience conducting supervision. Residents from each of the sites will attend weekly seminars in Daly City/Virtually. Residents also attend regular half-day Kaiser Permanente Northern California Post-Doctoral regional seminars. A core feature of our training program is supporting and mentoring new professionals in their transition from internship through licensure.  All applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need of an employer-sponsored or student visa.
