Program Description

The School of Columbia University serves children and families from varied ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as students with varying educational and psychosocial needs. Interns are involved in a wide range of culturally responsive clinical training activities. The internship training program provides opportunities for interns to develop new skills, as well as to refine skills they have acquired through graduate training. Through the internship program, interns develop proficiency and competency in the areas of assessment, individual and group counseling, parent and teacher consultation, behavioral assessment and intervention, crisis intervention, behavioral interventions, Tier 1 (whole-school) intervention planning and service delivery, in-service presentations, and research-based activities. Each intern receives a minimum of two hours per week of regularly scheduled formal face-to-face individual supervision and two hours of group supervision. Supervision is provided by doctoral-level staff psychologists who are licensed in New York State. Interns attend a weekly didactic seminar and literature review provided by staff members and professionals in the field of psychology and education. Additionally, interns participate and collaborate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
