The Neuropsychology Center and the APA Accredited Adult Psychology Internship Program will be compliant with The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai policies regarding non-essential employees. Changes in The Neuropsychology Center since COVID-19:
The Neuropsychology Center and the Adult Psychology Internship Program transitioned to distanced learning and training, as well as telehealth for psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. APA and the CoA recognize distance learning and education as an alternative for the delivery of in-person didactic education. However, the Department of Psychiatry has returned to in-person services as well as continuing some remote clinical services, learning, and training. At this time, most clinical services and training are in-person with some remote learning/training. The return to full time in-person clinical services and on-site learning and training will continue to be reviewed by the Department of Psychiatry and the guidelines provided by the Mount Sinai Medical Center.
The Adult Internship in Clinical Psychology is a full-time, one year commitment with a focus in Neuropsychology. A minimum of two Interns are admitted to the Training Program each year. The training follows a scientist-practitioner model of professional development. The Internship commences on July 1st (or the first weekday following July 1, if that day should fall on a weekend) and ends on the last weekday of the following June. Interns typically spend forty hours per week in professional activities related to their Internship. An Intern's time is devoted to clinical responsibilities with a strong focus on neuropsychology (e.g., neuropsychological assessment, adult psychotherapy, supervision and didactics) with the opportunity for research activities (in our Alzheimer's Disease Research Center; in the Neurology Movement Disorder program). Interns receive a minimum of three hours of individual supervision and two and a half hours of group supervision weekly. Didactics are comprehensive with a particular focus on neuropsychology and its application to both clinical and research populations. Under supervision, Interns engage in a wide variety of assessments and interventions appropriate to the role and function of a beginning clinical psychologist. Upon successful completion of the training year, Interns will have completed 2000 hours of supervised clinical experience which can be applied towards licensure.
