*Meetings with the Training Director do not have an established structure or pre-set questions> These meetings are designed to allow the applicant to choose how the time is used, to make sure applicants have time for their questions, and to make sure each applicant has an opportunity to interact with the TD.

Program Description

The Baylor University Counseling Center Internship emphasizes a thorough training experience and dedication to superior supervision.  We do this through a relational, use-of-self, multiculturally informed supervision approach. This is captured by the training questions we will ask interns to continually reflect upon, “Who am I as a therapist?” and “What are the ways I am therapeutic?”

We have established primary goals for the internship of developing 1) core clinical skills, 2) multicultural competencies, and 3) skills for professional practice in psychology.  We are looking for prospective interns that want:

  • Experience working with a broad range of presenting concerns, with diverse adults, in a college campus setting.
  • Supervision that attends to your experiences and choices as a therapist as much as to the dynamics and difficulties of the client.
  • Frequent opportunities for feedback and supervision across multiple modalities, including frequent video review.
  • The opportunity to supervise and train practicum students.

Internship Highlights:

  • A relational approach to supervision and training.
  • Attention to the self of the therapist as a guide for clinical work.
  • Weekly Trauma Recovery Supervision Group (TRSG)
  • A Multicultural Seminar Group that meets across the year, providing a space to grow in cultural humility and and ability to serve diverse clients.
  • Supervision of practicum students, and training of students in the summer.
  • Work at a religious university with a spiritually affirming stance.
  • An emphasis on experiential and self-involving learning during training and orientation.
  • Investment in both the professional and personal development of interns.
