Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site The typical internship work week involves 4 days per week at clinical rotation sites screening, evaluating, and treating incarcerated adults in a prison environment. The fifth day (currently on Wednesdays) involves a combination of supervision and specialized didactic training experiences and seminars.

Interview process description:

Our internship program conducts video based interviews through the Microsoft Teams platform. The video interviews are tentatively scheduled to occur on the following dates:

January 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, and 16, 2026 for approximately 90 minutes per candidate. It is anticipated that 20 interviews will be scheduled.

NMS Interview for Online Interview Scheduling will be utilized to schedule interviews, along with email communication as needed.

Candidates can also schedule one of two opportunities to speak with current interns via virtual Microsoft Teams meetings, tentatively scheduled for January 7th and January 14th, 2026.

Program Description

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction's (NC DAC) primary goal is to promote public safety by the administration of a fair and humane system which provides reasonable opportunities for adjudicated offenders to develop progressively responsible behavior. NC DAC Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology offers interns education, training, and preparation for the future practice of professional psychology. Our internship provides a platform for future work in substance use, trauma, severe mental illness, community mental health, and integrated healthcare settings. In addition, the NC DAC doctoral internship experience provides a wealth of corrections-specific instruction for interns wishing to find permanent employment in a correctional setting. This goal is accomplished by providing interns with didactic seminars, supervision, and opportunities to achieve proficiency in consultation, assessment, and intervention and therapy with a diverse, under-served, disenfranchised, and frequently disadvantaged client population.
