Interns at Rogers Behavioral Health gain experience providing specialized treatment to adolescents and adults who present with a broad range of diagnoses. As part of the treatment team, interns receive support and supervision as they gain competence to step into their career as health service psychologists.
There are two interns placed at the Adolescent Inpatient Unit, two interns placed at the OCD and Anxiety Disorders Residential Program, one intern placed at the Adult Inpatient Unit, one intern at the Adolescent Depression Recovery Residential Program and one intern at the Adult Eating Disorder Residential program. Applicants must identify the track(s) for which they are applying.
Interns placed in the Adult and Adolescent Inpatient Units (these are 2 separate tracks) will refine their clinical skills by: refining proficiency in short term individual and family therapy, supervising staff members or practicum students, participating in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, creating and monitoring measurable treatment goals and interventions specific to patient diagnoses, designing and facilitating psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups, modeling and teaching effective clinical milieu management, and completing 6 psychological assessments or formal case consultations. They will participate in program development and fidelity/outcome monitoring. Interns will be integral members of the team. They will gain skills in crisis prevention and intervention, risk assessment and risk management, coaching and mentoring of staff, and in the facilitation of effective clinical teamwork.
In the OCD and Anxiety Disorders track, the intern will focus on the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders with comorbidities such as eating disorders, depression, and body dysmorphic disorder. Treatment goals are accomplished through use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions such as exposure and response prevention and other exposure therapy approaches. Interns will become skilled at developing and implementing a graduated exposure hierarchy for each patient, will develop and lead group therapy, will consult with the teams and offer psychoeducation and modeling of milieu management, and will complete 6 formal consultations or assessments. They will supervise staff or practicum students and participate in outcome monitoring. Opportunities to participate in research may be available.
The Adult Eating Disorder Residential Care Unit is a 24-bed facility that accepts patients 18 and older within the eating disorder service line. The program utilizes an evidence-based treatment approach grounded in Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Exposure therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), with other ancillary treatment offerings. Under the supervision of the psychologist, the treatment team provides evidence-based interventions for co-occurring disorders as well, including behavioral activation (BA), and prolonged exposure therapy (PE). Interns will be integral members of the team, participate in staffing, in program development and fidelity monitoring, and will supervise individuals on this unit. They will complete 6 formal consultations or assessments They will gain skills in crisis prevention and intervention, risk assessment and risk management, coaching and mentoring of staff, and in the facilitation of effective clinical teamwork.
Interns placed in the Adolescent Depression Recovery Residential care track will refine their clinical skills by: completing at least 6 case consultations or assessments, participating in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, creating and monitoring measurable treatment goals and interventions specific to patient diagnoses, designing and facilitating psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups, modeling and teaching effective clinical milieu management, developing proficiency in individual and family therapy and supervising staff members. They will participate in program development and fidelity/outcome monitoring. Interns will be integral members of the team. They will gain skills in crisis prevention and intervention, risk assessment and risk management, coaching and mentoring of staff, and in the facilitation of effective clinical teamwork.
