Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site The work day will vary depending on the rotation and site within which the resident will work. We are focused on offering training in assessment, treatment, and consultation across the residency year although different rotations offer different experiences. The actual proportion of time spent in different activities will dependent on the resident's training goals. We require the resident to be involved in a small clinical research project and presenting on a supervision topic that interests the resident. We are committed to promoting a healthy work-life balance and encourage this with our residents.

Interview process description:

With COVID-19, we have elected to offer only virtual interviews.  During the interview, we will discuss the opportunities available and you will have a chance to meet with the Director of Training, Associate Director(s) of Training, and some of the Coordinators or Supervisors.  You will also have an opportunity to talk with one of the current residents in a more informal information sharing.  We offer approximately 36 interviews for the 6 positions.  Applicants will be informed if they are offered an interview on 4 December 2020.  The interview dates will be 18 - 29 January 2021.  If applicants have special requests, they can contact the Director of Training to look at options.

Other Requirements: The hours of assessment and intervention are only guidelines of minimum number required for interview. For the Generalist stream, most applicants who were interviewed in the last several years had closer to 400 hours of intervention and 100 hours of assessment with a combination of standardized assessments (e.g., WAIS) and personality assessments (e.g., MMPI). For the Neuropsychology stream, there is more focus on number of assessment hours and integrated reports. All residents must have a Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector check done before beginning the residency.
Program Description

We are a consortium composed of a large psychiatric hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, and a large general hospital. We offer two streams - Generalist and Neuropsychology. Five positions are available within the Generalist stream and one position is available within the Neuropsychology stream. Within the Generalist stream we have seven rotations (Adult Mental Health, Brain Injury, Eating Disorders, Forensic, Health, and Paediatrics). A resident does not need previous experience in these specific areas to work in a rotation and we focus on the development of a broad range of skills in assessment, treatment, and consultation. For the Generalist stream, residents choose two major rotations, each lasting six months. For the Neuropsychology stream, incoming residents need to have previous experience in neuropsychology. We offer the opportunity to see clients across the life-span with children, adults, and geriatric clients. All residents in both streams choose one minor rotation that is one day a week for the duration of the residency year. There is one nonclinical day per week, where residents attend a didactic seminar series, work on a research project and participate in a resident group discussing issues such as development of supervision skills and presentation of cases.
